The University of Ilorin(UNILORIN) welcomes application from candidates seeking admission into the new B.Sc. Agricultural Extension and Community Development degree in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin for the 2012/2013 Academic session.

Requirements for admission:
1. At least 5 O-level WAEC, SSCE, GCE, Credits in not more than two sittings in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and any other three from Biology or Agriculture, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Economics, Food & Nutrition and Home Management.

2. A Higher National Diploma (HND or equivalent) in Agriculture or related field of study with a minimum of lower credit from a recognized institution. The related fields include HND Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology, Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, Food Science, Home Economics, Fishery, Forestry and Wildlife, etc;

3. Candidates must have worked for at least three years and have been distinguished as a field extension professional as assessed by his/her employer(s).

4. In addition, JAMB Direct Entry form would have to be paid for by the Candidates. The process is being worked out with JAMB.

Objectives
The main objectives of the programme are to:
1. train mid-career extension and rural development professionals in specialized technical areas along the entire agricultural value chain;

2. improve the effectiveness of grassroots extension and community development professionals involved in the development programmes in Nigeria; and

3. upgrade the academic and professional qualifications of extension and community development professionals by equipping them with up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge applicable in the field.

Nature of the Degree Programme
The mid-career Extension and Community Development professionals are to be exposed to the issues involvedin value addition to agricultural products. These candidates are expected to possess Higher National Diploma (HND), in addition to the O’ level requirements. The Programme is a six Semester Programme. The students will be expected to specialize in any of the value addition options in their 500 level. This final year activity is the Supervised Enterprises Projects (SEPs), which covers both the long holiday and Rain Semester.

The programme is approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Application forms can be obtained online at the University of Ilorin website (www.unilorin.edu.ng) after the payment of a non-refundable fee of Ten thousand Naira (N10,000.00) only and as instructed in the website. The application closes in two weeks from the date of this advert.

From the latest information reaching us, 334 Engineering students of the University of Abuja (Uniabuja) who have battled with non-accreditation of their programme, are to be transferred to six(6) Federal Universities where they would graduate from.

The affected students have protested several times for the school authorities to Accredit their courses, it was reported that they students once refuse to allow other students of the Institution (University of Abuja) to write their 2nd semester examinations, the students, according to the school senate will be transferred to the following Federal Universities in Nigeria.

- Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, (Abu)
- Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi
- Federal University of Technology Akure, (Futa)
- Modibbo Adama University of Technology Adamawa and
- University of Ilorin, (Unilorin)

According to the report reaching freebrowsinglink.com, Three(3) sets of 500 level final year students would spend one year at the Federal University of Technology Minna upon which they would graduate with a certificate from the University of Abuja.

Chairman of the Task Team UniAbuja and Director Quality Assurance of the National Universities Commissions (NUC) Professor Chiedu Mafiana announced the decision to transfer the students on Tuesday after a meeting with vice chancellors of the universities involved.

Prof. Chinedu Mafiana however said students who do not possess the requisite five credits including Mathematics and English or did not qualify to gain admission from inception would not be transferred.
He further said; such students had the option of changing their course of study within the University of Abuja.
More protests from the affected students who were not qualified to be transfered,

Prof. Mafiana said, “It was the senate of the university that approached us with this request and it pre-supposes they (students) already knew where we are going.
If there are persons still spoiling for war it would mean that some of them were not qualified ab initio.”

A Female NYSC Member has been decamp for refusing to wear trousers. Reactions are pouring in already on the decamping of 2013 Batch A, female corps member, Ms Tolu Ekundayo, by the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), Ogun State for wearing skirt at the Shagamu orientation camp.

In a press conference organised by Ekundayo’s church, Faith Revival Apostolic Church, FRAC, in Lagos, the expelled corps member said she was asked to leave the camp at about 11.00pm on 8th March, 2013 by the Ogun State NYSC Co-ordinator, for her refusal to put on trousers.
She explained that her refusal to wear trousers was not in
disobedience to NYSC authorities but in line with her belief and faith in God.

Also speaking, Apostle Paul Adenuga condemned the manner in which Ekundayo was expelled from the camp in the dead of the night without considering her safety and called on the Director-General of NYSC and the federal government to look into the matter before it gets out of hand.
“I call on Nigerians, mostly Christians that stand for the truth, not only to jointly condemn this barbaric and bestial act but to engage in constructive dialogue with the concerned authority for the change of such policy if it is official.”

Update: NYSC Female Corper Decamped For Refusal To Wear Trousers!
Enough has been said already concerning the decamping of a 2013 Batch A female youth corper, posted to ondo state for her refusal to put on trousers, and according to the report, she was asked to leave camp at the dead of the night.

However, NYSC reacts:
When contacted, the Ogun State NYSC Co-ordinator, Mrs T.I Anosike maintained that the Service did not expelled anybody. According to her, Ms Ekundayo opted to go instead of abiding by the rules and regulations of the scheme.
She said wearing anything outside approved NYSC kits during the orientation programme was not allowed in the camp. This she said was the reason why every corps member was made to signed undertaking on cultism and dress code.

“Nobody asked her to leave. She was asked to comply with the NYSC directives or leave. So she decided to leave. When she said that she won’t comply, we asked her to put it in writing which she did. So we didn’t expel her, she left on her own.”

The latest report reaching us is that the Two female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Asaba, Delta State, yesterday engaged each other in a street fight over the attentions of lecturer-boyfriend.
According to a reliable source, the fight broke out along Mariam Banbagida Way in Asaba at about 9:30am in the morning, when the two female corps members, after exchanging of words/abuses, they engaged each other in raw fierce fight in which broken bottles were freely used and their clothes torn to shreds.

The Nysc members according to eyewitness, are both graduates of Obafemi Awolowo University, Oau and the fight was caused by the alleged snatching of boy-friend by one of them.
The two female corps’ members had reportedly attended an all-night party of a friend where one of them was wooed for a relationship by a lecturer at the state owned university.

We gathered that while their relationship is growing, the two friend (names withheld), who lives in the same house with her- secretly got the man’s GSM number and regularly sent him love messages while also running down her friend.

Osun Lecturers Strike
The strike by the workers yesterday grounded academic activities at the Osun State Polytechnic, Osun State College of Technoilogy, Osun State Colleges of Education in Ila-Oragun and that of Ilesa.

The Osun lecturers are demanding among other things, the elongation of service of academic staffs from 60 to 65years, insisting that most tertiary institutions have given approval to that effect and are complying with it.
